Ironworkers Local 16 Joint Apprentice Program is an active participant in the Helmets to Hardhats program. Helmets to Hardhats is a program that helps veterans transition to a career in the construction trades in a more expedient manner. Helmets to Hardhats applicants have no application deadline and will be enrolled in the next Helmets to Hardhats pre-apprenticeship class. These classes are 1 week in duration and are only open to veterans.

All Veterans who have been discharged within the last 10 years are eligible for entry via the Helmets to Hardhats program. When coming to apply the veteran needs to provide a copy of his/her DD-214 discharge papers.
